Horsetails

Horsetails is the first and only programme on British television that offers an informed, varied and entertaining look at everything related to the horse and it’s welfare: from breeding, breaking and training; racing and other equestrian sports; riding for the disabled; equine psychology and health.

Presented by champion jockey Alice Plunkett and Simon Golding, the brand-new magazine show features a broad mix of items taken from the British equestrian scene. Throughout the series, Horsetails follows the progress of the British Olympic Eventing team. Alice joins them in Athens for their final preparations before the games, as well as special behind-the-scenes reports. The series also follows the progress of Simon as he learns to ride – from his very first lesson, through all aspects of his training, to him finally competing in a race.

Alice learns to joust at the UK’s Jousting Academy; catches up with Anthony Stewart Head, whose wife trains horses; and joins Zara Phillips for a ride as she talks candidly about her love for horses and her parents’ attitude to her competing. Plus, there are interviews with other famous horse lovers including Jodie Kidd who talks about her passion for Polo, and Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood.

With the horse industry worth £2.5bn to the UK economy, and over 2.4m people horse riding regularly in this country, Horsetails brings this fascinating world to life.

Leamington Courier, Friday June 4th 2004.....

Jousting lessons were the theme of the day at the Warwick International School of Riding when a television crew arrived to film a documentary.

Knights of Middle England has set up day courses in jousting as an alternative to more typical days out for any groups.

The student of the day was Alice Plunkett, television racing pundit and wife of renowned cross-country event rider William Fox-Pitt.

She tried her hand at jousting as part of a documentary series on all things equestrian, Horsetails which starts in October this year and will be shown on Animal Planet.
